Local 12 Retiree Paul Smith passed away on Saturday, July 10 2021. He was a Proud Member of Local 12 since 1991. He retired in 2019. I would normally write something about a retiree myself but when I read his obituary I thought it would be better just to reprint it. Please keep Paul and his family in your thoughts and prayers. May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Paul For All Eternity. Paul Alleyn Smith, a life-long resident of Wood-Ridge, NJ passed away on Saturday, July 10th at the age of 67 after a very courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on January 30, 1954 to the late William and Ruth Smith and educated in the Wood-Ridge school system where he excelled in athletics and graduated in 1972. He worked as a Union insulator with Local 12 where he formed lifelong bonds with colleagues he cherished. Paul was a loving husband to Linda Smith (DiMartino), devoted father to Kaitlin Rose and husband Harrison Kanarick, Lauren Elizabeth and fiancé Michael Rienzo, and doting grandfather to Emmeline Rose; as well as beloved Uncle and cousin, dear brother, and treasured friend. He loved being outdoors, landscaping, gardening, vacationing in Hilton Head Island for over twenty years, and was a passionate Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers football fan. He enjoyed kayaking, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, yoga, cooking, hiking, reading, and traveling with his family to see the Fighting Irish compete. His pure heart, bright smile, sense of humor, unwavering reliability, and unforgettable laugh will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His generous spirit and quick wit will forever remain in the hearts of everyone he touched. Above all, Paul loved his family. He enjoyed coaching his daughters and attending every one of their sporting events after a long day of work and was forever their biggest fan. He had infinite adoration for his new granddaughter, who resembles him with bright blue eyes and one endearing dimple, and treasured every moment spent together. He had a deep love for history after learning of his late father’s experience in World War II and took a memorable trip to Belgium to see the Battle of the Bulge site where he bravely fought. Dear Local 12 Member: It is with deep sadness that I must report that Donald A. Donnelly passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Don was many things to many people he was an Insulator, a Local 12 Employer, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a Local 12 Insulator for many years and then he opened a shop called Northshore Insulation which eventually became Thomas J. Donnelly Insulation. I did not know him very well but he always treated me with kindness and respect. I do know all of the Local 12 Members who worked for him and all of them have nothing but good things to say about him. His regular core of Local 12 Employees looked at him as family and he looked on them the same way. He treated his Local 12 Employees like assets and not liabilities to the company. He helped set a standard for all Local 12 Employers to follow. As a father I feel I can say he must have been a great father. My proof of that is the devotion I have witnessed that his three sons Don, Matt and Chris have for him. Don will truly be missed by all those who knew him.
